After I wrote my post on “Why MMD cannot run on MAC computers”, I began to do more research as I discovered that people CAN install Windows on their machines using Bootcamp and other software. I find the software around shops all the time and they are pretty pricey and I haven’t had much success with the software… but I found an easy and genuine way to get a virtual Windows working on other operating systems through Microsoft’s website with VirtualBox!

Of course, not all MACs, not all computers, can RUN a virtual machine… or have the disc-space or graphics cards to manage it! My article describes some of these concerns… but you will have to discover, for yourself, if your machine is up to the task.

Get it work

  • Get Mavericks DVD
  • Prepare Pendrive:
    • open Disk Utility
    • highlight the USB drive in left column
    • click on the Partition tab
    • click Current and choose 1 Partition
    • click Options...
    • choose GUID Partition Table
    • under Name: type USB (You can rename it later)
    • under Format: choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • click Apply then Partition
    • open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal
    • type the following, enter password and hit enter (assuming that 'Install OS X Mavericks.app' is in /Applications):sudo /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB --applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app --no interaction
    • download latest Clover from http://sourceforge.net/projects/cloverefiboot/
    • open Clover package installer
    • hit: Continue, Continue, Change Install Location...
    • choose the USB, now called Install OS X Mavericks
    • hit Customize and install Clover to the same USB with the following Custom Install settings:
      • Install for UEFI booting only
      • Themes -> CloverX
      • Drivers64UEFI -> EmuVariableUefi-64
      • Drivers64UEFI -> OsxAptioFixDrv
      • Drivers64UEFI -> PartitionDxe-64
    • when USB is ready:
      • open EFI partition and open /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.9/ and put files: FakeSMC.kext, AtherosWiFiInjector.kext, GenericUSBXHCI.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, ApplePS2ElanTouchpad.kext, ALXEthernet.kext
      • open /EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/ and put HFSPlus.efi (https://github.com/JrCs/CloverGrowerPro/blob/master/Files/HFSPlus/X64/HFSPlus.efi?raw=true)
      • open /EFI/CLOVER/ and change config.plist to (from archive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_1uyuIK_qkvRjRUQjI4aXgtbGM/edit?usp=sharing)
  • Run machine
  • Press F12 for boot menu
  • Boot from EFI USB Device
  • Press ENTER
  • Make single partition with Disk Utility (With GUID partition table)
  • Install
  • Restart
  • Press F12 for boot menu
  • Boot from EFI USB Device
  • Press ENTER
  • Let installer finish
  • Restart
  • Press F12 for boot menu
  • Boot from EFI USB Device
  • Select to boot from partition which you installed Mavericks
  • Install Clover:
    • open Clover package installer
    • hit: Continue, Continue
    • hit Customize and install Clover Custom Install settings:
      • Install for UEFI
      • Install Clover on ESP
      • Themes -> CloverX
      • Drivers64UEFI -> CsmVideoDxe-64
      • Drivers64UEFI -> DataHubDxe-64
      • Drivers64UEFI -> EmuVariableUefi-64
      • Drivers64UEFI -> OsxAptioFixDrv
      • Drivers64UEFI -> OsxLowMemFixDrv-64
      • Drivers64UEFI -> PartitionDxe-64
      • Clover preference panel
  • Download and install VoodooHDA-v2.8.7.zip from http://www.osx86.net/files/file/1194-voodoohda-2-8-4-pkg-installer/
  • Generate only SSDT with: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57319162/ProBook%20Installer%206.1.13r3.zip
  • Move generated SSDT from Desktop to /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/
  • To customize your DSDT
    • Download and run http://sourceforge.net/projects/maciasl/
    • In its preferences add REHABMAN repo: http://raw.github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch/master
    • Apply patches (in order):
      • DTGP
      • 7-series/8-series USB
      • Rename GFX0 to IGPU
      • Brightness fix (HD3000/HD4000)
    • additionally put this in 'Patch Text' to have close-lid-sleep:into device label LID0 code_regex Names+(_PRW,[sS]*}) remove_matched;
    • Click 'Apply'
    • Compile and save as DSDT.aml
    • Move DSDT.aml to /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/
  • Restart
  • Remove USB device
  • Boot OSX via Clover from HDD
  • Customize your machine
  • Make first user
  • Log in
  • Run combo update to 10.9.5
  • Reboot
  • If you want iLife you need to install 2013 version
